Wine Travel- Portugal
Something Joanne and I love to do is visit "off the beaten path" 'farm to table' wineries. The smaller productions that you only get locally (and then we fall in love with the wine and cannot get it again). LOL. North of Coimbra is a lovely city, Viseu 10/4/23. While there (earlier post), I found this smaller winery, Quintas das Marias. And, then when we traveled south of Coimbra to Tomar, I found Casal Das Freiras 10/10/23. Both amazing.
Quintas Das Marias, October 4, 2023- small producer. In the Dāo Wine Region. Had really yummy red, the Reserva and especially the newer technology in the "egg" (below). The wine is aptly named Ovo. The guide was lovely and very knowledgable. We considered shipping some wine home-- it was that good.

Casal Das Freiras, October 10, 2023. Really small production in the Tejo Wine Region. The owner, 5th generation, is making wine with his daughter and son-in-law. Only sold in the area-- They laid out a table and kept giving us food with the wine. It was incredible. Also, they have olive trees that may be hundreds of years old.
These are their experiment/new 'technology'-- using clay pots.
Will be ready next year.
